They read 1,000,000 words in a year so they got to party in style
Teaching kids to read is one thing, getting them to enjoy it is another.
One kindergarten class is laying the groundwork for the latter in spectacular (and adorable) fashion.
A Twitter user shared photos of his nephew looking dapper and proud as his kindergarten class celebrated reading 1,000,000 words over the course of the school year.
Shoutout to my nephew. His school had a "millionaire bash" for the kids that read over a million words in the school year. Celebs for a day. pic.twitter.com/hy40v5OzKP

The school kept track with reading logs, and estimates that the one million words are the equivalent of 250 books.
The students were dropped at the school in a limousine, and as each one entered the classroom, their names were announced and they walked down a red carpet as their parents cheered.
Buzzfeed spoke to the little boy’s mother, Denetta Suragh, about the party and her son Breyden’s exploding ability to, and interest in, reading.
“Breyden was really on me about it,” Suragh says. “He was like, ‘I want a limousine ride so we have to turn in all our reading logs!’ It encourages every child to want to read even more.”
The kids even signed autographs for their “fans.”
“They make them feel like a celebrity,” says Suragh. “They call their name out, and they have us there as their fans. So while they step out on their little red carpet, we’re screaming and congratulating them.”
Suragh’s brother’s tweet of images from the party has been retweeted over 10,000 times as people praise the school for making reading so fun for the kids.
Love this creative and fun incentive to foster a love of a reading. https://t.co/9CJtcaZk39

He wasn’t the only one looking his best.
Teachers are sometimes in the news for the wrong reasons, so it’s always great to be able to share stories like this. We know this is far more representative of the people that educate our children.
Instilling a love of reading in young kids is no small task, but it’s one that will pay dividends for years to come.
“When he first started kindergarten, he wasn’t a great reader,” Breydon’s mother shares. “But because of the program that they did to encourage him to read more, he’s almost on a second grade level of reading.”
Using a party to highlight the significance of such a meaningful milestone is a heck of a fun way to keep that fire burning. And help it spread.
“His little brother is looking up to him, so that’s something he wants to do,” she said. “He wants to get in a limousine, and he wants to read something.”
Sounds like there will be more parties to come.
