Are You an Optimist or a Pessimist?

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?  Do you think you deserve poverty or abundance? Happiness or unhappiness? Reward or punishment? Is your glass half empty? Half full?

The way you think is critical to every thing else in your life.

Your thinking creates wealth, health, happiness or poverty, illness and sadness. James Allen wrote a classic called, As  Man Thinketh in which he stated:

The aphorism “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he,” not only embraces the whole of a man’s being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life. A man is literally who he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.

This is a very old joke but it makes the point:

The research psychologists were studying the difference between optimists and pessimists.  They looked until they found 2 children—one represented the 100% optimist and  the other represented the 100% pessimist.

They put the pessimist in a room full of the most popular, most sought after age-appropriate toys—anything a little boy would want was there. He was instructed to play with any of them as much as he wanted and determine which toys he liked the best.

They put the optimist in a room filled with horse manure. He had a shovel and was given no instructions except that they would return in one hour.

In one hour they opened the door to the little pessimist’s room and found him sitting in the center of the room crying, the toys untouched. They asked him why he was crying and why he hadn’t played with the toys. Between sobs, he responded, “I would like to play with them, but if I did they would probably break and  then you’d be mad at me.”

They opened the door to the optimist’s room  to find him shoveling and singing at the top of his voice. When asked why he was so happy, he responded, “With all this horse shit,  there has to be a pony in here somewhere!”

Nuff said. Which are you?
